One tool that I have come to use frequently is a tool that will tell me who owns a particular piece of property. This tool is free and hosted by the state of Tennessee. In addition to identifying the owner of a location, you can also do a search by owner - if you know the county and name of someone, you can probably find their address.

There are a few counties not included in this tool, Knox county is one of those - they do have their own GIS tool https://www.kgis.org/kgismaps/

I have heard of people who create a LLC, then, instead of owning the house themselves, they have it owned by the LLC to shield themselves from this type of information leakage.
